He’s been djing in Boston since 1987. Became known in the college scene in the late 80’s to early 90’s for mixing Hip Hop, Reggae, RnB & House Music. Then in 1991 he began a residency at the BOSTON LOFT with Armand Van Helden. Then in February of 1992 he started the Legendary Utopia Parties. Utopia still remains as one of Boston’s hottest DEEP HOUSE MUSIC events. In 2006 Boston Magazine awarded him DJ OF THE YEAR. In 2007 Weekly Dig awarded Utopia Sundays the BEST HOUSE NIGHT IN BOSTON. On December 22, 2012 he was forced to retire due to health issues with diabetes. That same evening politician Tito Jackson gave him an award that said December 22, 2012 was DJ BRUNO DAY. After an operation which caused him to lose some of his vision he enrolled in the Carroll Center for the Blind. At the center he learned to cope with his blindness and to continue loving life. Still determined to do what he loves he came out of retirement on July 2013. That same month he released his first mix cd in 14 months titled “BLIND FURY”. Today he is still doing what he loves and will continue to do so until the day he dies. “LIFE AIN’T WORTH LIVING IF YOU CAN’T DO WHAT YOU LOVE DOING!”.
(Afrobeta Bodega / House of Pela / Are You Afro?)
Max Pela is “a DJ’s DJ”. He shows up with a smile, selects the first track, then sculpts every facet of the sonic environment to his precise vision, until the last sound wave emanates from the speakers hours later. His music is Deep Afro, Soulful, Tech and intense; graying boundaries between genres. Constantly seeking variety [in uncommon sounds in each genre], the mixture of these genres, creativity, and the search for that specific sound. He has a fondness for new and non-conventional producers. His mixing is patient and flawless and his personality is respected; his performance revered all over.
Born in Santo Domingo (the capital of the Dominican Republic), Latin America’s new mecca for electronic music, his musical journey began in his childhood as a percussionist. In the late 90’s Max began to DJ, and by 2000, he became the resident DJ of Ocho Puertas in Santo Domingo. He performed in the most prestigious venues of the island. In the late 2003, Max left home for the United States. In 2006 he became resident to Carlos Mena’s BEMBE party in Miami and Boston, where he began to gain recognition in the United States and around the world. In December 2008, he began working with Adam Gibbons on UHURU AFRIKA, a monthly party in Boston. In 2011, he became resident DJ for ARE YOU AFRO?, a monthly party in NYC started by Gale Murphy. In 2013, he started HOUSE OF PELA, his monthly party in Boston alongside Jay Medina and Jorge Serra. Now 2014, Max Pela is known as one of the top Artists that represents Afro House. Currently, Max continues his journey of Afro-Rooted Rhythms in AFROBETA BODEGA, his production company, while traveling all around the world and bringing his unique Afro sound.
Afrobeta Bodega is a multifaceted website and media entity founded by Max Pela specializing in promoting afro house music and underground culture. An international hub reaching trendsetting, multicultural urbanities and providing relevant information for early adopters and the musically forward. It is also the home of Afrobeta Bodega Radio, which features sets from carefully selected new talent, as well as live recordings from the many parties that Max performs at.
T.C.C. THE COUPLES COUPLE
(Utopia, Lawrence, Mass)
TO BE IN LOVE Is Everything: Soul, Music, Dance, Family, Union.
DJs Dende & Mystina, The Couples’ Couple, are the embodied treasured gem of these five vivid realities. Together, they share their bonded words: House Music is a Giver of Life and a part of who they are.
Dende & Mystina debuted as sole DJs, playing parties in Lowell, Boston and Cambridge. Fated, they played guest set as a Force of One duo at H.O.M.E., a DJ Bruno and Boston Househeads Production. This guest set changed everything. DJ Dende & DJ Mystina decided to become DJs Dende & Mystina, a tag-team duo who will bring to the table their support for each other, their shared love for House Music and their goals to play the hottest music while aiming to throw the party into a dance frenzy, as they do!
Since the debut of T.C.C. in 2013 they have earned residency at one of Boston’s longstanding events: Utopia Boston. They have spun at a number of Boston events, including an invitation to play at The Gathering, a yearly Thanksgiving tradition, alongside other Boston veteran jocks. They have also played alongside Trinidadian Deep, JusticeNYC, have played guest sets at House of Musical Expression, or H.O.M.E., House Of Pela, & UNITY in Boston as well as NYC DEEP in NY. They have also done opening sets for Legends Quentin Harris, Grammy Award Winner Louie Vega & Anane Vega (Moon Ritual).
*We thank you for going along this journey with us by supporting this page and our act. Future dates will be posted, along with new mixes.*
“Our promise is to always play from our hearts.” This is T.C.C.!
DJ G GROUND
He started out back in 93 listening to these tapes that this so called DJ BRUNO had been giving out at his friday night gigs called THE LOFT. His uncles Jesus and Ben would go every Friday night to this club and came back with these house music tapes mixed by the likes of ARMAND VAN HELDEN, DJ FRAN, and of course DJ BRUNO. As soon as he knew that his uncles had these tapes he would steal them and record copies of them. He couldn’t believe how wonderful this “HOUSE MUSIC” sounded and from that moment in his life he was hooked. Fast forward to 1999 was when he first got his 2 Gemini turntables and Gemini mixer but had only a handful of records, He would play them records over and over trying to get that perfect beatmatch. He would do parties here and there but he mostly concentrated on trying to better his skills and making mix tapes.
It wasn’t till 2014 that he got his chance to finally play at a club environment thanks to none other then DJ BRUNO, the guy that he’s been inspired from and listening to for more then 20 years. Dj G Grounds goal is to not only share his sound with the people that love this music but to also bring people together as one.
“Theres nothing better then when you see people smiling and singing to the music that you love, that’s HOUSE MUSIC”
